Dressing

It is not obligatory to wear according to the Islamic dress code, but it is appreciated if you wear modest clothes. The UAE has prohibited to dress with “indecent clothes”. Not long ago, some non-Islamic people wore indecent clothing at the beach and they were arrested. This style of dressing is unacceptable in public places, but in clubs and bars. For examples, it is againt the law to wear sleeveless tops and short dresses in the malls of Dubai. Due to the lack of flexibility, many visitors disregard the law, even if they don’t mean to. Therefore, if you don’t want to be a criminal in Dubai, choose apropiate leghted clothing, not to reveal too much skin.

Moreover, in the UAE men usually prefer to wear a kandura, a long white shirt woven from wool or cotton that goes down to the ankles. The average UAE national men could have more than 50 kanduras, in order to have always some clean kandura, as they take a lot of care about their physical appearance. Males use to dress up with white kanduras on summer season, and colorful ones during winter.  On the other hand, most women wear an abaya a black over-garment that covers almost the whole body. Both kandura and anabaya are specially well-suited for Dubai’s hot and dry climate.
