Ethnicity, religion and language
ETHNICITY
Dubai has 2,106,177 inhabitants according to the last census made by the Statistic Centre of Dubai in 2013. Nevertheless, only the 10-15% of the population are natives of the UAE. The other 71% of Dubai’s population is made up of Asians (Indian 51%, Pakistani %16, Bangladeshis %9, and Filipinos 3% are the most significants).
The average age rate of Dubai is of 27 years, with a birth rate of 13.6% and a mortality rate of 1%.
RELIGION
The UAE’s Provisional Constitution defined that the Islam was the official religion of the region. 95% of the mosques is managed by the state, only a 5% of the them are totally private. The Government is also who chooses and gives the work the imams. An Immam can be sent to jail if it is caught making a racial or religious hatred comment or if it is known that he is promoting Islamic extremism.
Nevertheless, as Dubai has got a very varied population, there are plenty religions, communities living in the city: Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Baha’à and Buddhist, mostly. These non-Muslim communities can construct their houses of worship, if they request a landing ground and a building permission. They can also inform their believers when the sessions are and publish religious literature. But, it’s prohibited to proselyte, if it is against the Islam.
LANGUAGE
The official UAE’s language is the Arabic, but it’s not the only one person speak, though.
Moreover, they use English as a second language, and due to the huge immigration languages as Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Persian, Chinese etc. are spoken.
The Arabic of the Emirate is the Gulf Dialect.
